Pond Paradise

OVERVIEW

This project aims to combine the characteristics of lines with traditional Chinese painting, using material transformation to express it on different objects. Because I am very fond of animals and the ecological environment, I have set up a lotus pond with Chinese characteristics as the theme.

Material Research and Practice

I began by practicing with different materials. I then learned how to sketch with iron and later, converted its reflective texture into lines. I painted on different objects, copied the work of other painters and used lines to transform these objects into water ripples.

Pencil sketch to Chinese Painting

After becoming familliar with the painting expression of materials, I studied the expression and application of traditional Chinese painting. I used sketch pencils and brushes to create variations in thickness. Thus, I did not need to add bright or dark colors to the images to achieve depth or a sense of three-dimensionality.

Sketch

I first used rice paper and a Chinese brush for the setting of the image. Unfortunately, converting it to Illustrator did not work well. My intention was to create brush strokes, but the visual effect was not good enough.

Refining

After the imperfect stage, I restructured the original concept by practicing lines on objects. Here, I used sketch pencils to draw lines and make the lotus pond appear three-dimensional. I also added different animal elements to make the entire pond vibrant.

Printing Application

To implement this artwork, I applied various designs. Combining Chinese traditional painting with the transformation of lines and textures has allowed me to use this method on many different pieces.
