Concept
Education is very important as early as in childhood stage. Thus, we hope to develop the awareness of environmental protection in young kids. During lesson planning, we searched for issues around environmental pollution. We not only showed documentaries and shared news reports around the ecosystem, we also supplemented the lesson with illustrations.
Besides, we also made a documentary of this lesson where we interviewed our students and let them share their work. To convey the importance of environmental protection (and that we are equally responsible for it) to a wider audience, we uploaded this documentary to Youtube.
Picture Book Concept
The main character of the illustrations is a turtle who is going to school. However, the environment was destroyed by humans which puts him in danger. The purpose of this illustration is to teach students to put themselves into other’s shoes” and understand the importance of protecting our environment.
HANDICRAFT LESSON
In addition to using a narrative approach to convey environmental issues, we also let students create usable things through recycling. We guided students to construct their own potted plants through recycling the glass milk bottles that they consumed at school every day.
